Description
We do not know why Dante found himself in Mantua when he took part in the dispute over the difference in level between the land and the water, between the continent and the sea, a relevant theme in the cosmology of the period. We know, however, that that dispute was resumed in Verona in January 1320. Despite being printed for the first time in 1508, the text remained peripheral to the interest reserved for Dante’s other works. In 1905 Leo Olschki decided to republish the work in the 1508 edition, with an edition for the general public. 116 years later, the Olschki publishing house is re-proposing the edition with the same objective as Leo.
